03 A little transparency

Books don’t have
official CEFR levels.

People do. So we look at the Spanish in a book and ask a more useful question: when can you read it comfortably for pleasure?

Our approach
01

A cohort, not a national top 100.

The 100-work cohort is assembled from six named Kindle, bookseller, publisher, and editorial selections. Edition-level entries for Alas de ónix were consolidated, and two distinct works verified against the PlanetadeLibros 2025 selections brought the cohort to 100. These lists cover different audiences and periods; we do not combine their positions into one sales order.

02

Ranks stay with their source.

Only the reported Kindle positions and GfK’s year-end #1 claim are shown as numeric ranks. Casa del Libro and PlanetadeLibros category placements, and Fnac’s year-to-date selection, remain source-specific.

03

Two estimates, two reading modes.

“Estimated CEFR” describes independent comprehension of the sampled prose; “Comfortable reading” estimates when a reader may enjoy a steadier pace. Choose Flow to match comfortable reading, or Stretch to match estimated comprehension. The shelf order, level matches, and starting-points ladder follow the selected mode. Book cards show both estimates. Model estimates are not official labels for a book.

04

Authorized text before any rating.

The automated assessor requires at least five passages and 2,000 words from a permitted Spanish preview. High confidence means broad, varied evidence; medium or low confidence describes limited or opening-heavy evidence, which appears beside the rating. No preview text is republished here.

05

Only assessed books appear on the shelf.

Titles without enough permitted Spanish text stay out of the catalogue until there is enough evidence to assign a level. AI-produced estimates are labeled and tied to their saved prompt, model, and sample provenance.
